Lira's Got Her Seat(finally)

My number 1 favourite SA songbird and performer Lira finally has got herself a seat on a judging panel. Lira is by far the most energetic and entertaining female artist in the land and she is musically well traveled, by that I mean she has gone around the world promoting her music and has been well received in countries like the US and Italy(I think she even featured in a movie there) But even with all these accolades and the number of talent franchise shows Lira has never been a judge until The Voice looked down south I've always said Lira would be a great replacement for Unathi Msengana on the Idols SA judging panel. Unathi isn't really doing much on the show, if it were up to her she would send everyone to Sun City and she doesn't have as much experience as Lira in performing. When the news that X Factor was hitting our shores surfaced I was excited and figured since the winner would get a deal with Sony Music Africa and Lira is signed with them she would be the obvious choice. To my surprise she wasn't, Zonke bagged that one and I didn't have a problem with that until I saw her in action. I still have questions regarding her judging.

Now The Voice SA is blowing up our screens and Lira has her seat and is doing a fantastic job, she is showing off the skills she has acquired from performing around the world. I have faith in her work and her team looks amazing. For now regarding The Voice SA I'm #TeamLira

The World Is Her Cake

Queen B stays winning all the time and it seems there's no stopping. Bonang Matheba made news when she got the deal as an ambassador for Revlon here at home and now she's made even bigger news as she joins the eternally gorgeous Halle Berry and Olivia Wilde(don't really know who she is) as an international ambassador for the brand. Even though her position was tested with that DJ Zintle and AKA scandal but Revlon got mad love for the Queen that they promoted her to international ambassador and is the first South African to do that(take that Zinhle). Congratulations Queen B Kill'Em'More

Two Timing Katlego Maboe

The SAFTAS unfolded the past weekend and it was a joyous and glamorous event. SA's deserving talents walked away with awards for their various talents and SABC3 Expresso's co-host Katlego Maboe took home the same award two times in a row. Apparently he is a singer, songwriter and was part of an acapella group, he showed off those talents on the SAFTAS stage on Sunday as he helped open the show which he co-hosted with Minnie Dlamini. Katlego was probably set to win this award, he was nominated twice in the same category for Best TV Presenter, one nomination for Expresso and the other for Strictly Come Dancing and won the award for the second consecutive time. Last year Katlego was nominated in the same category for Expresso and won( see why we call him two-timing?). Katlego is well deserving of the award, he is one of our favourite presenters right now, he is part of the dynamic team that handles the Expresso morning show on SABC3 and also did an amazing job hosting Strictly Come Dancing for the past two years(here comes that two-timing part again). Here on Sel&EL we congratulate Katlego on the award and the amazing job he does and we hope keeps us hooked always.

Guess Who's Back

After spending more than a month in jail for sexually assaulting an Australian woman, Okalumkoolkat has returned home and he's getting right back to work. He pleaded guilty to the charges and served his sentence in Australia.

You'd think that after all this drama the rapper would hide himself from the public, but that is not the case. He was performing at Emerald Casino this past Sunday and this was the rapper's first public appearance since he got back. Last week he apologized to fans, family and everyone who was affected by the situation. He's also said that he is ready to move on with his life. We hope he's learnt his lesson. :)

Something New And Something Very Old On V-Entertainment

Change is always exciting but its not always the best thing to do but V-Entertainment has went on and cleared their roster to pave way for new faces and one old one. From the 1st of April industry familiars will take over the Purple V show. Your usual faces Shelton Forbes and Denise Zimba have been swept away to make room for these fresh faces. On Friday Dreamteam's Mthoko Mkhatini gave us a taste of what its gon' be like when he finally grabs the ropes along with MTV Base VJ turned female rapper and dubbed as the Skhanda Queen Nomuzi Mabena. That's not all! club banger hitmaker DJ Speedsta and Vuzu The Hustle's hopeful Shane Eagle are also in the mix. Lalla Hiriyama who has outlived the likes of Siyabonga Ngwekazi, Thomas Gumede, Cyprian Ndhlovu and Dineo Moeketsi on the show will remain as the longest serving presenter(ancestor that one)

God's will prevails as Ntandoyenkosi wins Miss SA 2016(see what we did there?)

At a glamorous event Saturday evening Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was crowned the 58th Miss South beating 12 other beauties.
The 23 year old Wits student hailing from Mpumalanga was a crowed favourite as she wowed the crowd round after round. Ntandoyenkosi was second by the Free State beauty Elizabeth Molapo and Tayla Skye Robinson from Guateng took the third spot.

The event was hosted by your usual suspect Proverb and he did an effortless job. The event was moved from the usual venue which is the Sun City superbowl to Carnival City rather. In my opinion there were a few things that could've been better like the stage and the performances. Micasa has done this performing thing for ages, new kids on the block would've been awesome(at least Shekinah was there), seeing that its a women empowerment event one would think its logical to have at least one female hip hop artist to perform since they're on the rise. Its time to be honest now, the real reason why guys check out pageants its the swimsuit section(guilty) but this year that section was a dive, I don't know why coz the ladies were beautiful but there was just something that didn't connect and it may also be because I'm still drunk on the bodies of ladies like Rolene Struass, Ziphozakhe Zokufa, Jade Hubner, Abigail De Jager and Tshegofatso Monggae(damn those ladies brought in their year) But not to down the spirits congratulations to Ntandoyenkosi Kunene and wish her all the best of luck in her reign and the international competitions.
